What is Photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a form of light treatment that uses a variety of light sources including lasers and light emitting diodes.  This therapy alleviates pain, reduces inflammation, promotes wound healing and modulates the immune system.  Those of you who have been with Brio for years may recognize the similarities between PBM and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). There has been significant advancements in the areas of light and laser therapy, and the new term for all of this is now Photobiomodulation.

In 2009, Brio Integrative Health Centre was the first clinic in Richmond to offer Low-Level Laser Therapy for sports injuries and pain management.   We have continued to expand and grow our Photobiomodulation department by adding new technology and treating a variety of conditions.  If you are being introduced to light therapy for the first time, please take a look at the video below for a brief overview:

Over the next few months, will will share more information on how PBM can help with many conditions including shoulder injuries, low back pain, plantar fasciitis and even concussions.
