Reflecting back on 2018, the Brio family had so much to celebrate this past year!

2018 marked the 10-year anniversary of Brio Integrative Health Centre.  It felt like yesterday when Dr. Neetu and I met at a business workshop in 2007.   We had the same vision of creating an integrative clinic in Richmond, so in 2008 we joined forces and made it a reality!  Here is some fun trivia for you: When we first opened our doors back in 2008, our clinic had a completely different name. Do you remember what were were called?

In June, we had our 10-year anniversary celebration.   For our one-day celebration, we transformed our clinic into a mini “expo” modelled after “Expo 86,” the World’s Fair that was held in Vancouver in 1986. In our large multi-purpose room, which was standing room only, we held 15-minute presentations throughout the day on various health topics.  The other rooms in our clinic were set up as “pavilions” and each featured one of our treatment modalities, such as Naturopathic Medicine, Acupuncture, Low-level Laser Therapy, etc. Short videos describing our treatments along with patient testimonials were played in each room. And just like the real “Expo 86,” guests were given a stamp card and received a stamp for each room visited. Once they completed their stamp cards, they were entered into a draw for some fantastic prizes donated from our supplement companies and local businesses.  We had patients new and old come out to the event. I was truly touched by how excited everyone was to celebrate with us, especially the patients who had moved away and made a special trip just to join us!

In August, Dr. Carin Matsushita had a beautiful wedding ceremony in Seattle.  She had family and friends come in from Japan and all over North America. The ceremony started with a traditional Japanese Kagamibiraki, which means breaking of the “Taru Sake” (barrel sake).  Later the couple shared the sake with all of us when they came around to toast each table. The guests were treated to a fantastic Japanese meal, followed by plenty of homemade desserts and a 90’s dance party!  Dr. Carin has some amazing family and friends who helped her coordinate the wonderful day.

In September, the Brio family gained another member when Kyra gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!  Tyson was born on September 29th, a couple of weeks earlier than expected. That was the day we had planned a baby shower for Kyra, but Tyson had other plans and wanted to celebrate with us!  Both Kyra and baby are doing very well and we hope she is enjoying her time as a new mom!

There have also been some changes to our staffing this year.  Aurelia, who was at the front desk on Saturdays, graduated from UBC and has transitioned into full-time employment in Vancouver.  Although you may not see Aurelia at the clinic, she is still helping us with various projects behind the scenes. We are so thankful for her help and excited for her as she begins a new chapter in her life after school.  In June, we welcomed Rav to the clinic. She is currently a post-secondary student with a keen interest in learning more about Naturopathic Medicine. You can catch Rav if you come in to see us on Tuesdays or Saturdays. And last, but not least, the newest member to our team is Annette.  Annette comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and many years of experience as an office manager. She has worked in both Naturopathic and Medical clinics. We hope you get the opportunity to drop by and meet our new staff!

Lastly, we have received great feedback on our speaker series this year.  I spoke on the subject of brain health; Dario spoke on Light Therapy; Dr. Neetu spoke on absorption & supplementation and Dr. Carin spoke on lab testing.  Thank you to everyone who joined us and we hope you felt inspired to take your health to a new level.

From all of us at Brio, we wish you a happy and healthy 2019!
